New Shirt for Fall

Haven't been sewing for more than 2 months.  I came up with this over the weekend.  It's too loose, or maybe it's the fabric.  I didn't have enough fabric to make sleeves  =(  Fall color but sleeveless LOL

So behind

Oh my!  It's been more than 2 months since my last post.  I haven't been sewing since.

All because of my new job.  It's just so frustrating at work, learning new stuff, not knowing what I'm doing ---  really bothers me.  I come home thinking about work and even dream about work, how to do this, how to do that, what I have to do the next day.

Boy oh boy!  I also started school, instead of sewing or looking at sewing blogs, I've been doing homework.  No time for me to sew.  Sad... just sad.

I am wearing the shirt that I made 2 months ago for my new job (my last project).  I am so happy every time I get a comment on how pretty my shirt is.  I feel proud when I say "I made it."  The people go "No way---"           =)

The weather is cooling off and so I need a few longer sleeves shirts.  I am going to start sewing again tonight.  Planning to make a few more shirts like the one I'm wearing today with a bit longer sleeves and darker color for fall/winter.  Well, it depends on what I can find at home from my fabric pile.

So excited!!!  It's actually my lunch break now, and I am looking at sewing blogs.  Oh how I miss doing this...

New Job Shirt

I haven't made anything for a long time... that's because I set a goal of not sewing until my house is clean.  You can tell how long it took me to clean my house.  Still not very clean though, only my room and my closet is a little bit better looking.

I'm starting my new job today so I made this shirt on Saturday to wear.  I saw a lady at work wearing a shirt like this (the style) and I really liked it.  I made my sleeves shorter --- my first sleeves ever !!!!

The lady at work wore the shirt similar to this

And mine came out like this

My new hair style =)   the little bump on the top... makes me 2 inches taller hahaha

Have a great Monday, all !!!  Hope my new job goes well also.

"Unzip My Dress" Dress

=)
I have created a name for this dress.  It should have been done like 3 days ago, but I was lazy doing the hemming... Finally finished.

Anway, short story behind the name of the dress...
I brought my dress in to work with me, hoping I have some time to do the hemming and do some blind stitch at the back by the zipper.  I was wearing a green dress that day and wanted to show one of my co worker my new dress that I'm working on.  So I put on this dress with the green dress underneath.   "Looks pretty good!" he said.
The CFO then walked by and I asked him "Can you unzip my dress for me?"  Haha  he was like "What? No!!!"

That's where the name came from.

Today I'm actually wearing my dress (without a dress underneath).  The CFO walked by again and I told him "No, you can't unzip my dress for me today..."

=)

I made the neckline kindda too low for me, so I have to wear a black cami underneath to be able to wear to work.

Tell me what you think of it.  I like it with a betl, but I should have taken a picture of me without the belt.  =)
I'll do that later.

4 months of sewing

I'm sitting here thinking...  So it took me 4 months of sewing to sew something decent for me to wear.  When I created this blog, I wrote that I hope one day I can make a dress or a shirt to wear--- and now I can.

4 months that is.  Lots of sewing for Kayly, use the seam ripper and billion times haha, but now finally can make a dress for myself.  I'm proud of myself.  I have 4 more fabrics waiting for me.  More dresses for this summer.  =)  Yay !!!!!!!!!!!!

But soon I gotta learn how to make sleeves.  Don't know how to sew sleeves yet.  But I guess sleeveless summer dresses are good enough.  =)

First Dress Finished !!!

I started this dress on Friday night --- end up finishing it today.  Well, most of it was done on Friday.  I started working on it around 8:30 pm, went to bed at 1:30 am ... Oh boy!  That was 5 hours.  I woke up the next day with black circles around my eyes.  =)  But it was worth it.  My dad came over yesterday and saw me try on the dress and approved it.  Yay!!!

Finally, it is done now.  All I have to do is hem it and blind stitch a few spots.  Didn't have much trouble with the zipper this time.

No pattern for this.  I drafted my own --- but I copied the neckline from Simplicity 1803

I'm so proud of myself.  I bought this fabric on clearance plus 50% off red tag fabric from Joann.  End up paying $2.50 for it.   I only got 1 yard (I'm short)  =)

No make up, so I cut my face off the pictures  =)

The V looks crooked, doesn't it?  I'm going to fix it.

so so so crooked

Now I have make up on LOL

I'm Still Sewing ~ First Official Shirt

I just realized that my last post was June 17.  I'm still sewing, just finished a shirt for myself indeed.  My sister bought me a thick thick book about pattern making and so I've been reading that.

I haven't taken pictures of the new shirt I made.  It's just another simple shirt like the previous green one, but this one has a zipper on the back.  Can you believe that I re do the zipper 5 times?  When I wear it, the back curve out at the one spot (I'll show you what I mean later in picture).  It still has a small bump curve but alot better now.  I don't know why.

And the neck, I guess it got stretched out while I was sewing or something... =(  My dad said the neckline and the armholes are the hardest spots.  We want them to fit the body, not like "out" and showing the bras.  But I think I know why that happened, I didn't stay stitch it.  ;)

I plan to wear the shirt tomorrow to work.  Again, it's just a simple shirt made out of an old sheet.  I need to wear the shirt out to public and see if any one laughs at me.  We'll see...

A Shirt I Made For Myself

I'm still looking for fabric to make the sailor dress for Kayly...  Got the navy one but still looking for a thick white fabric that I want at a reasonable price...

Anyway, I just finished making my shirt (from an old sheet).,  It isn't done done done but all I have left to do is to hem it and trip off the extra threads.  It actually didn't take me long to sew the shirt, but making the buttonholes was gosh took forever.  Can't figure out why the stupid button holes on my machine keep on skipping stitches and make straight lines rather than... I don't know how to explain it.  But I'll take a picture of it.  I counted.  I have 5 button holes to make, and I had to redo it more than 50 times.  A spot on my shirt almost got a hole from undo the threads and redo ...  =(

My dad gave me the instruction to make the pattern base on my size.  I got 4 books here with the same instructions to make clothes with your own measurements.  I know this shirt isn't pretty.  It's the basic shirt.  My dad said as long as I can make a basic shirt, then I can design whatever I want.

This is actually the 5th one I made.  Dad said if I make 100 of them for practice, then I can make one for myself.  I don't have patience to do 100.  But I did 4.  So the 5th one I made I can actually wear (if I finish the hem).  I'm proud of myself.  But I gotta show my dad first and see if he approves it or not.  =)  Everything has to be perfect for him.

I gotta figure out why my machine is so crazy making button holes.  Maybe it will be faster if I make the button holes by hand.

I got no make up on so please don't look at my face.  Just look at the shirt haha

See something sticking out from the other sleeve?  It's the facing that I didn't tuck in... All I got to do is some blind stitch.

Look at the mess that I have to clean up.  =(

See the yellow thing on the sewing table?  That's a seam ripper and it's my best friend  =)

Another July 4th Dress With Ruffles

I'm done shirring.  For real !!!  LOL
I think this is the 4th shirring I did.  It's so easy and fun to do but I think I did enough.
I bought a few different patriotic fabrics from Joann so I decided to make another easy dress for Kayly, with ruffles this time.  =)

Kayly is sleeping right now so I have no model to try on this dress.  I'll take more pictures in the morning.
Bed is calling my name...

July 4th Dress

The sailor dress isn't done yet--- I haven't found a material that I want, so I decided to go ahead and make the July 4th dress.  (Another shirring dress, it's so fun and easy to do)

Now, tell me the truth, how much would you pay for this dress if it was for sale?  I asked my husband that and he told me "Five dollars!"  ...  I wanted to cry.  =(

Do you think I can make this and sell on etsy or ebay for $10?  LOL  that means I only make $2 an hour haha

New Project ~~~ Sailor Dress for Kayly

I've been "learning" by reading the tutorials all over the web for sailor collar.  I think I finally got it LOL.

Found some cute designs but still thinking and deciding which one is the easiest to do.

this dress is $29.49 from overstock.com

this one is very similar to the one above, or maybe it's the same one just different size haha

this one is from kmart, didn't see a price

Uhmm...why do they all look the same now ??????

I think I'll do white dress with blue stripes rather than blue dress with white stripes.  (that's because I don't have enough navy fabric haha)

So let see how long it's going to take me to make this dress.  =)

First Refashioned Dress for me

I don't think I will do another refashion for me again because it's so hard.  It took me almost 4 hours, neglecting my daughter and my husband, this is what I came up with.  Doesn't look very pretty.  It's too loose at the waist, maybe I can save it for when I'm pregnant again.  Haha  But if it's not loose at the waist, I can't fit in it through my head.  There's no zipper or buttons no where.  I guess it failed.

Do you notice the little green/gray something on the right of the pictures near my feet?
That's the ugly dress that I made for Kayly from the men's shirt.  I use it to clean the floor.  hahaha

Another Pillow Case to Kayly's Sun Dress with Shirring

I did one yesterday already but decided to do another dress.  I'm getting better at it.  I make the lines for shirring closer together and it gathers more.  I did this in total of  1 and half hour.  Not bad huh?  I think this dress is the cutest one out of all the dresses I made.

Another Month of Sewing

So it has been 2 months since I started this blog.  Let see how much sewing I did last month.

1 pillow case dress
2 dresses from men's shirt
1 green dress from lady's shirt
1 skirt to dress
1 pink/green dress
and a bunch of alterations and mending

That's only 6 things.  =(

Pillow Case to Kayly's Dress With Shirring

I was looking around on Burdastyle and found this dress .  I told my husband this is too cute and I can totally make this for Kayly.  So, here it is.  Not really cute like the dress I saw but... oh well.  Atleast I didn't use my pretty pillow case.  I learn to use the ugly fabric or the ones I don't care for to practice.  Kayly isn't too happy when I asked her to try this on and take some pictures.  She was busy watching her movie and didn't want to miss any part.  So, no smiles at all.

Size 10 Skirt To My New Skirt

I found this at a super cheap price.  Guess where I got it from?  ;)

I always love the kind of fabric that has embroidery in it.  I looked at my closet and I only have 1 white pair of jeans/capris.  That's it.  Only 1 white bottom.  So I went on a search to look for white clothes and this is what I found.  It's summer time now and AZ is HOT !!!!!!  So this is perfect.

It's size 10 and that's too big for me.  So I took it in from the back.  I guess no one will look too much at the back and won't notice it if I don't tell them.  =)

Oh, and today I realized that my husband isn't a very good photographer.  =)

Here's the close up of the fabric.

I took in total of 5 inches.

And ta-da !!!  It fits me.  I forgot to take a picture of the back.  When I wear it for real I will take more pictures.

Still Sewing

We went cruising for 7 days so I didn't get any sewing done.  I'm still deciding if I should sew for my daughter more dresses or it's time to sew for me...
I shortened 1 pair of pants for me, and took in the legs of the pants for my husband last night.  I'm going to list it here so I don't forget when I count how much sewing I did for this month.  The month is almost over and I haven't done much.  =(  Sad...

Men's button shirt to Kayly's dress

A co worker gave me his shirt because I told him it didn't look good on him.  Haha...  Believe me, I am honest and will tell if it's nice or ugly.  Actually, it wasn't this shirt that I told him it was ugly.  But he end up giving me 2 shirts, this one and the one that I called ugly.  It was so ugly that I don't think I will make a dress for Kayly with it.  It's just a sad color.

Am I mean ???

Maybe, but oh well.  This shirt came out OK, but why does Kayly look soooooo old in these pictures??????

Don't want your clothes any more???

It doesn't hurt to ask right?

=)

If you got clothes that you are tired of, don't want to wear them any more, have a hole, ripped, some stains ... please donate them to me.  I can turn them into something for my daughter.  =)  Wouldn't that be great?  Nothing go to waste.  I've been making dresses for my daughter with Goodwill stuff, and could make something from the clothing that you don't wear any more.

Does this sound crazy?  I guess it doesn't hurt to ask but ... .I don't think any one will spend the postage to send something to me that they rather go to Goodwill and dump it there.

Mending ~ Alterations

Since I said this blog is to keep track of all the sewing I do.... I forgot to post this.  No pictures for these because my husband doesn't want to take pictures.  =(

- hemmed up 3 pairs of dress pants for him
- made the legs of the pants skinnier than what they were before - 2 pairs
- took in the waistband of the pair of pants that I just bought, and made the legs more tapered

...  that's it, but I want to make sure I count those =)

Another dress from men's shirt

I did this in 1 hour from start to finish.  I'm getting good at it.  I mean this dress only.  Remember I made the blue one from the men's shirt?  So now she has 2.

Not sure why the pictures don't show up, but can be seen here

Kayly's Green Sundress (shirt to dress)

I always want to make a dress like this for Kayly and I finally did it.  I had to redo it 4 times.  It's knit and it stretched so much, so I had to redo the whole thing.  Then it was still too big, so I redid it again.  Then the straps were too long...  And now it's finally done.

I'm proud of myself because I have patience to take it apart 4 times hehe

The pictures are not coming up, but can be seen here

She can do 3 with her fingers =)
